It’s often observed that “things come in threes” … and sometimes it’s even true. This week, my trifecta came in the form of pushes to start doing some “real” writing again.
- I missed out on a writing job that would’ve been financially fantastic, but tied me further to fast, internet-style journalism
- My husband told me out of the blue that he thought I should start writing more literature and more “soul-satisfying” work
- I read this quote from Samuel Johnson in a writing newsletter: “What is written without effort is in general read without pleasure.”
So the message seems clear: stop talking about it, stop procrastinating by always focusing on the writing that pays the bills, and get creative. Okay world, I get the message and I’ll really try!
